*NJ Death Penalty Study Commission Hearing 1:00 PM

The Commission will take testimony from invited witnesses. The Commission will also take testimony from the public concerning:

Whether the penological interest in executing some of those guilty of murder is sufficiently compelling that the risk of an irreversible mistake is acceptable; and

Whether alternatives to the death penalty exist that would sufficiently ensure public safety and address other legitimate social and penological interests, including the interests of families of victims.

This public hearing will be the final opportunity for the public to testify before the Commission. Persons who haved testified to the Commission previously are urged to submit any futher comments in writing only. It would be appreciated if persons wishing to testify would send a written copy of their testimony to staff prior to the meeting by e-mail (gneville@njleg.org or

mbavati@njleg.org) or fax (609-292-6510). If this is not feasible please bring 20 copies to the hearing.
